Hello from Save Our Teas!

I thought my first blog post should be an introduction to me and my little business.

My name is Ellie and I started Save Our Teas in 2019 with one simple goal; to spread the word about single use plastics in tea and to show people that there are eco friendly and equally delicious alternatives!

This is my little family

Did you know that many single use teabags are either heat sealed with polypropylene or made entirely from plastic? Nor did I! In 2018 I found out that my trusty morning cuppa came with a side of hidden plastic. This plastic "glue" begins to breakdown as soon as you add hot water which means it's leeching into your drink. Because who doesn't want a steaming hot cup of microplastic? Ew.

My first loose leaf strainer from 10 years ago!

This revelation sent me on a bit of a spiral. How much more plastic comes with my cup of tea? What are the tea bags wrapped in? Why is the cardboard box wrapped in plastic, with a plastic bag of plastic teabags inside? Why does the loose leaf tea in super markets come in plastic bags (or cardboard boxes containing plastic bags?!?) There HAS to be a better way!

So I decided to start making my own teabags using cotton and my own blends of organic tea from the most plastic free sources I could find. After 6 months of mixing blends, perfecting teabags designs (with the help of some fantastic testers) and finding plastic free packaging Save Our Teas was born!

From humble, sewing machine beginnings

Over the past 2 years we've come a long way. Adding over 20 blends to our range, constantly trying to find the most ethical and eco friendly ways to package and send our teas, being stocked in our first online retailer and working with a host of other small and sustainable businesses AND opening our own website! I can't wait to see what the next 2 have in store!

Thank you for reading and I hope this little blog has helped you to get to know me and my brand a little better!

As a thank you here's a 10% discount code:

Can kids have tea? This question often leads to many more. How old should they be before they have tea? Will it be too hot? Does it have caffeine? (and do my kids really need caffeine?) Will they even
